Road Maintenance Officer | Local Council

  • Hourly Rate: $44

  • Location: North / South East

  • Duration: 2-3 Month Contract (Initial) with potential for extension

  • Work-Life Balance: 7:00 AM – 4:00 PM | Monday to Friday

About the Role

We are currently seeking experienced Road Maintenance Officers to join several Local Council depots across the North and South-East. Working within the Infrastructure & Assets division, you will be responsible for ensuring the community’s roads and drainage systems are safe, clean, and structurally sound.

This is a "hands-on" field role perfect for someone who enjoys varied outdoor work, operates heavy plant machinery, and takes pride in maintaining public infrastructure.

Key Responsibilities

  • Infrastructure Maintenance: Routine and reactive maintenance of roads, drainage, and roadside assets.

  • Signage & Safety: Installation and repair of road signs and ensuring worksites are signed to the Victorian Roadworks Code of Practice.

  • Plant Operation: Competent operation of Backhoes, Excavators, and Loaders at various worksites.

  • Heavy Driving: Driving maintenance vehicles up to 22.4 tonnes GCM (HR License required).

  • Emergency Response: Participation in an after-hours duty roster for emergency road hazards when required.

  • Inspections: Conducting daily pre- and post-shift plant checks and recording daily work data.

What You Bring

To be successful in this role, you will have a strong background in civil construction or municipal maintenance and hold the following:

  • Licensing: Current Victorian Driver’s Licence + Heavy Rigid (HR) Truck Licence (Mandatory).

  • Tickets: White Card, Traffic Control (Stop/Slow), and Traffic Management Implementation.

  • Plant Competency: Proven experience operating Backhoes, Graders, and/or Loaders.

  • Experience: Certificate III in Civil Construction (preferred) or substantial experience in road maintenance.

  • Compliance: Ability to pass a Pre-Employment Medical (including Drug & Alcohol screen) and maintain a current Police Check and WWCC.
